The HIV/AIDS Prevention Project in Viet Nam is a joint project between the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Viet Nam Administration for AIDS Control - VAAC, the Ministry of Health Viet Nam within the framework of the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Project time: 5 years, from 2013 to 2018.
Location of the project:
a) 28 provinces / cities: Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, An Giang, Can Tho, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Nghe An, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Lang Son, Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa, Soc Trang, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Tay Ninh, Long An, Binh Duong, Vinh Long, Bac Ninh, Dak Lak, Da Nang, Binh Thuan, Hoa Binh, Quang Nam.
b) 8 institutions / hospitals: Central Hospital of Tropical Diseases, Central Gynaecology and Obstetric Hospital, National Hospital of Paediatrics, Bach Mai Hospital, Pediatricts Hospital No1 in HCM City, Tu Du Hospital HCMC, Pasteur Institute Ho Chi Minh City, Central Dermatology Hospital.
c) Some other provinces, cities, institutions and other hospitals depending on the practical situation and funding sources.
Total capital of the project: 45,845,455 USD, of which non-refundable foreign non-governmental aid: 45,000,000 USD / 5 years.
General objective of the project: Support Viet Nam to achieve the objectives of the National Strategy for HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control until 2020 with a vision to 2030.
Specific objectives of the project:
(1) Strengthen the capacity of the health care system to provide high quality, comprehensive and sustainable HIV / AIDS prevention, care and support services for people living with HIV and HIV high-risk people in Viet Nam (abbreviated as Capacity Building for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment);
(2) Strengthen capacity to collect, use data and manage HIV / AIDS programs through improved quality of HIV / STD / TB surveillance program and capacity building of the laboratory system, monitoring, screening, follow-up and treatment (abbreviated as Capacity Building for Data Collection and Use, and Program Management for HIV / AIDS);
(3) Strengthen the technical, organizational and financial capacity of the VAAC to coordinate donors in the field of HIV / AIDS, in particular the PEPFAR and Global Fund partners in developing and promulgating technical guidelines and monitoring of high quality service delivery programs (abbreviated as Technical, Organizational and Financial Capacity Enhancement).
